raccoon felt ornament

more felty raccoon fun today... a hand-stitched raccoon felt ornament!

we've been making a lot of ornaments around here and felt crafts are great to do with the kids. and here's a lazy mama's holiday tip: a tree full of handmade ornaments is the perfect "shopping place" for last minute little gifts you forgot you needed. just pick one off the tree, and then you can replace it... um, next year?

materials needed:
felt (three colors)
coordinating embroidery floss
needle
raccoon pattern (download printable pdf here)

1. cut raccoon template pieces, transfer to felt, and cut out (cut two of largest piece so that you have a front and a back).

2. attach raccoon pattern pieces to the front large piece, one layer at a time. with coordinating embroidery floss, stitch around edge of each piece with small stitches as shown. for eye and nose pieces, you do not need to stitch where raw edges line up as this will be sewn in next step.

3. make a loop of thread and attach to wrong side of the back large piece.

4. place back and front pieces wrong sides together. stitch front to back with a running stitch close to raw edge.

5. hang on the tree or tie on a gift and enjoy!

if you make a raccoon felt ornament from this tutorial, please share pics in the imagine gnats flickr group. and don't miss the raccoon felt needle book tutorial. pattern and tutorial are for personal use only.

happy stitching!
