there it is... that's my secret. code name: SKUBB. i have five under my bed and each one contains .0574 cubic yards of hidden stash-ready space!! yeah, i don't know how much space that is either, but when full of fabric, one weighs about "two cats".
one time i told someone that i thought i had 30 cubic feet of fabric under my bed. turns out that was really crazy. the hubs tells me that if you order that much mulch, they bring it in a dump-truck wouldn't be a bad way to order fabric, if you ask me!
so, there it is... my main scrap bin. the great thing about it is that if you just stir it up a bit, you'll find something new and different underneath.
the other four bins are currently not filled with scraps, in case you're wondering. one has outgrown clothing (theoretically) ready for repurposing, one has my Pellon stash, and two are full of fabric i've bought but haven't "put away" yet.
top shelf houses 1/2 yards, bottom shelf 1 yard cuts. anything under 1/2 yard or in a strange shape gets thrown in the scrap bin (larger sizes even when i'm feeling lazy, and let's be honest, that's most of the time). other than that one nursery versery print, the most recent thing i see is fmf? been a while since i put anything away, i suppose.
so, that's it. my mess of an unorganized fabric stash. it's no 30 cubic feet, but it weighs more than lots of cats!! now... here's some info about how you can bust some of your stash!

ReplyDeleteWho can I call to have my 30 cubic feet of fabric delivered? I've got my shovel ready! ;)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun to dig through. And keeping your Pellon in it is a really good idea! I should get one for my interfacing because it keeps falling off the shelf.
ReplyDeletei love that about my scraps as well. just throw them around a little and see what you can find! ;)
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many scraps I'll actually need to make a quilt. Hmm...might have to dig a little harder. :)
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, and send that dump truck over when you're done with it! :)
I'm going to have to check those out. I tried an under the bed plastic bin and it was too tall to fit under the bed. (boo, hiss) As a recipient of your scraps, I can attest to their fabulosity.
ReplyDeleteThat was funny! I'd love a dump truck full of fabric!
ReplyDeleteWhen you mix it up a bit you find more?! You could lose someone in there ;o)
ReplyDeleteWow, your scraps are BIG. Mine are less than 5", anything 5" or more I consider to be practically yardage!
ReplyDeleteI am glad to know that I am not alone in my obsession for scraps! But this is a great way to tuck them away!

I say you can never have enough fabric, but lately I have been thinking of posting squares on Etsy of the little pieces I have left (since I have never taken on making a quilt I don't currently have a plan for the smaller pieces). I loved seeing in your picture that you have a fabric I just purchased - the one with all the balloons.
