growing

on this monday morning, i have a few things to share with you. some updates, a thank you, some news, and garden pics i took on saturday (good thing i did, because the rain did not quit yesterday). i was thinking how random an assortment of things this seemed, and then i realized that they all have to do with growing. it seems fitting that very different aspects of my life are, in fact, not different at all... they are simply extensions and expressions of each other.

first, a huge thank you and virtual hug for all of your honest, thoughtful, and kind comments on my post about mother's day. i've said it before, but it bears repeating that it is simply amazing to be a part of this online community of sewists and crafters and moms... thank you for sharing in my tears and my triumphs! i had a lovely mother's day yesterday, and being able to share my story with you was definitely a part of that. i spent a relaxing day with my two beautiful girlies and loving husband, i focused on the moment, i enjoyed my life, and celebrated being a mom. oh, and Nick got me a new coffee maker!

we have enough lettuce to feed salads to a small army, and i'm looking forward to having some of the other veggies get big enough to add to our salads. K is very excited about the maple tree seed she planted and checks on it a few times a day to see how much it's grown.

yesterday i decided to sew something just because i wanted to (crazy, right??) and what grew out of that was..... *drum roll* summersville zig zags.

summersville zig zagstrimming HSTs

i used a layer cake (from sewn studio) for all of the HSTs and trimmed the individual blocks to 4.5". and isn't there just something soothing about pressing and trimming HSTs? also, would anyone like me to share how i stitched the layer cake pieces to form HSTs? i can post pics if you like, though i suspect i could have found the directions online instead of figuring it all out. nothing new there.

as is, this would be a perfect baby quilt, but we're done with the baby thing around here ;) so... i'm thinking about adding two or three rows of borders to make a larger quilt. i'm leaning towards one solid (color undecided), the crosshatch print (possibly in black), and the alphabet print (blue? orange? hmmm) for the borders. but i'm open to suggestions!

and in the news! department, imagine gnats continues to grow and gain recognition in this crazy corner of the online world we inhabit. i'm beyond excited to announce that i have two new projects that will be making their debut this week.... on Pellon and Sew, Mama, Sew! there are no words to express how excited i am about this!! i'll be sharing the links as soon as they're live :)

  1. yay you! the zig zags make me happy. orange in some form would be fun in the border.

can't wait to see your tutorials!

we have some maple trees starting to grow in our sandbox on the deck. I don't want to kill them so I guess I'll be looking for a place in the suburbs to transplant them. Is there such a practice as plant-bombing? lol

  2. I am in the same boat with my zig zag quilt. It ended up being a baby size quilt and i want it bigger so now I'm struggling with border colors. Aiayayyaa...

Yours is lovely and congrats on the new tutes! Can't wait to see them!

  4. Gorgeous quilt! Would love to see pics of how you did it, as I have no clue. Dunno about the border, but I'd love to see a binding of the black dotty print or the black weave print.
