nook cover

before we left for our trip, i managed to squeeze in my first finish for 2012... a nook cover for Nick's new christmas toy. i used this pattern from birdiful stitches, which i highly recommend, with a few minor edits.

instead of the button tab closure i used elastic, partly as a time-saving measure and partly because i didn't have any good buttons to go with the fabrics that we chose (echino, gray linen, and handprinted quill by maze & vale). also, i like the simplicity of it (and, um, not having to make a button hole).

instead of the fabric corners to hold in the nook, i added this fabric frame-of-sorts. after i realized that the nook could then slip out the top (oops), i used a piece of the gray linen as a velcro tab at the top.

i love the way these fabrics came together and the cover came in very handy on our trip. the only thing i would adjust if i made it again is the size of the frame. it covers a tiny bit of the top of the screen (i didn't allow for the topstitching when i measured), which is more on a minor inconvenience than anything.

i'm linking up with Handmade 52 by Katie over at Raising Oranges. she'll be hosting a link party every week for us to show off what we've made and i'm hoping to be able to regularly link up. one finish a week is reasonable, yes? here's hoping...

  1. I love the fabrics you chose for this cover! I've been making covers with the Birdiful Stitches pattern too and they've come together really nicely. I like your edits, I don't have an e-reader and always wonder if the corners are a pain with covering bits of the screen...

  2. thanks so much for stopping by! Your cover turned out great! I really like those fabrics and just wrote down the name of the company you got them from. I'm always looking for something a little different. Beautifully done! Returning the favor :-)
