a skirt, an ewok, and mail from japan

a few updates tonight... first, i finally finished the custom spinny skirt i've been working on (to be given as a gift to a friend's sister-in-law). it involved making way more bias tape than i reasonably needed. but how lovely is this AMH innocent crush, right? i'm sure there are a billion other things i can do to use up the 7 yards i didn't need (like maybe a bias tape swap *a little gray*).

tonight i got the bias tape on the skirt and snapped a few preview pics:

i used fabrics from joel dewberry's aviary 2 and modern meadow, lizzy house's outfoxed, and laurie wisbrun's tufted tweets for this skirt. it was a stretch to get all of this to work together, and even after it was sewn up i was a little nervous about how it would be received (though i'll be the first to admit that i would totally wear this). i was very happy (and relieved) when the feedback was beyond positive. i can't wait to hear what the recipient of the skirt thinks!

random photo.... i have a friend whose daughter wanted to be an ewok for halloween and he asked me to whip up a cowl (i called it a cape and i've been corrected) to go over the rest of the costume. i think she looks pretty fab, so i thought i'd share :) and the cowl was pretty easy. bonus!

also today i received my first handprinted fabric (from the swap) in the mail. from japan!! you can see more about the fabric i received on riyo's blog, talktothewindandsun. here is a pic of the loveliness that came along with it:
