mixed up shirt becomes a mixed up dress

it's been rough around these parts so far this evening... the sheer volume of coughing alone should be enough to scare anyone away. dinner was a bit of an adventure, followed by some silly girls showing us their "yucky medicine" faces.

i managed to get K to try on her mixed up shirt so that i could determine how long to make it, and she immediately decided she liked it long and it should be a dress. hmm. that would be fine, except that the way i had sewn the t-shirt pieces on the front just didn't really work with that.

not to be deterred, i decided i could just cut the bottom off another old shirt, sew it to the bottom of the mixed up shirt, and we'd be set. well, that didn't exactly work. mostly because the piece i sewed onto the bottom was way too long and the seam was a little wonky too. determined to have not just ruined the entire shirt, i knew i had to come up with something.

aha! i had left enough of the original shirt so that i could sew a second seam below the first to form a casing for elastic. thus, the mixed up shirt became kind of a mixed up shirt with skirt attached (but we'll just call it a dress to make things simple). i did manage to convince K to let me take a few (and i mean only a few) pics. so i apologize for the poor photo quality, but... you take what you can get with sick kiddos as models.

Silly sisters

and that was just about enough fun and silliness to send K right back to her cozy spot on the couch. what's that? no, i'm not jealous. not at all :/ why would you say that?

Post-photo shoot

now it's bedtime and i still haven't decided what to work on tonight. should i start cutting out dresses or pj's? finish the second audrey cape for B? something completely different? we'll see...

happy sewing!
